Fishing Flies
Dry Flies, Wet Flies, Nymphs and More
Mayflies
In most parts of North America the Mayfly has always been considered as a main or 'the' main staple food source of trout and many other species of fish.
Dry Flies
Dry flies are used to tantalize fish from the surface, usually by dressing them up with fly floatants or buoyant body materials - such as foam
Bead Heads
The brass bead head fly has become one of the most popular fly types. This is because the weight of the brass bead helps keep the fly very close to the bottom where trout are used to seeing and capturing naturals. The flash of the brass bead has also proven to be very attractive to several other kinds of sport fish.
Muddlers
Muddlers and Lures are attractor patterns which are retrieved at speed to entice the fish to chase.
Nymphs
Most trout feeding is below the surface where they forage for Nymphs. Insects drop their eggs on the surface and these drift to the bottom of streams and rivers where they stay until hatching, and the newly developed nymphs are prime food for hungry trout.
Special Nymphs
Includes stone fly patterns by the likes of Randall Kaufmann and others.
Streamers
A streamer is a type of wet fly that typically represents a bait fish or minnow. Though it can represent various creatures, streamers are usually constructed to represent minnows, sculpin, tadpoles, or other baitfish. Consequently, they tend to be fished in a more active fashion.
Parachute Flies
The parachute dry fly style offers flies that are easy to cast and very effective. The distinctive "parachute" slows down their descent, allowing for more delicate presentations for weary trout.
Special Dry Flies
Popular dry patterns such as Wulffs, Stimulators, and more.
Wet Flies
These flies are fished below the surface of the water. They are usually tied to imitate the adult or immature form of mobile aquatic insects. The wet fly category covers a vast array of sizes and patterns, from nymphs and streamers to crawfish, leeches, and freshwater shrimp.
